Der Vorspann ist schon mal total anders:

DF: Eine Zeitung ist zu sehen; nach und nach werden die Anfangscredits eingeblendet.

Japan: Das Toho-Logo erscheint, gefolgt von der Godzilla-Titeleinblendung. Nun folgen jede Menge Texteinblendungen (vermutlich die Anfangscredits). (alles natürlich in jap. Schriftzeichen) (1:53 Min)

Als Ogata mitteilt, dass er nicht mit Emiko auf das Konzert gehen kann, gibt es folgenden kleinen Unterschied:

DF: Eine jap. Zeitung ist zu sehen mit der Texteinblendung: "Konzert des Budapester Streichquartetts"

Japan: Ogata hält die Eintrittskarten mit einer Infobroschüre in der Hand.

Wieder ein kleiner Unterschied:

In der Japan-Fassung wird eine Zeitung mit der Meldung "Waren es Unterseeische Vulkanausbrüche oder treibende Mienen" eingeblendet. In der DF wird dieselbe Zeitung eingeblendet, aber lustigerweise Spiegel verkehrt.

Ein Bus fährt vor und wird sogleich von Reportern umkreist. Aus dem Bus steigen die Mitglieder der Untersuchungskommission.



Szenenwechsel: Das Paralmentsgebäude

Vorsitzender: "Mr Ooyama."
Mr Ooyama: "There have been 17 houses destroyed with 9 deaths. I have heard that there were other damages. Could you please tell us how bad they are?"
Vorsitzender: "Otho Island village mayor, Mr. Inada."
Mr. Inada: "Certainly, of course. Twelfe cows and eight pigs died."
Shinkichi: "I`m not lying! It was hard to see in the dark, but it was an animal!"
Mann: "I know it goes against common sense, but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that it was definitely not a normal hurricane! The way the Houses and helicopter were destroyed, seems as if they were crushed from above!"
Vorsitzender: "Now, finally, we will hear the opinion of expert paleontologist Professor Kyohei Yamane."



Das Plenum klatscht.



Professor Kyohei Yamane: "I suppose my opinion is a bit premature before a thorough investigarion. But we all aware of the discovery in the Himalayas of the alleged "snowman-footprints". It is a mystery we have yet to solve. The earth has many deep pockets, abyssal regions that contain secrets we have yet to dicover. For this incident, I request the formation af a fact-finding party for a full investigation."



Das Plenum klatscht.

Szenewechsel: Das Schiff mit der Untersuchungskommission verlässt den Hafen. Menschen, darunter auch Professor Serizawa, winken dem Schiff zu.



Als das Schiff auf dem Meer zu sehen ist setzt die DF wieder ein.

Es ist ein wenig länger zu sehen wie die Leute dem Professor, der die Gegend auf Radiaktivität untersuchte, folgen. In der folgenden Szene ist Professor Kyohei Yamane bereits ein wenig früher zu sehen.

Godzilla schaut sich die flüchtenden Menschen an.



Als Godzilla seinen berühmten Urschrei von sich gibt setzt die DF wieder ein.

Nachdem Professor Kyohei Yamane über die Entstehung des Godzillas berichtet hat, fehlt in der DF folgende Diskussion:

Professor Kyohei Yamane: "The evidence suggests that Godzilla itself must have absorbed an enormous amount of atomic radiation."



Es bildet sich einen kleine Unruhe.

Vorsitzender: "Order, please! Order please!"
Mr Ooyama: "Chairman! Chairman!"
Vorsitzender: "Mr Ooyama"
Mr Ooyama: "I beliefe that Professor Yamane`s report is of such extreme importance, it must not be made public."
Bürgerin: "What are you saying?! Because it is so important, it should be made public!"
Menge: "Yes Yes!
Mr Ooyama: "Be quiet! Whate mean is, if this Godzilla is the product forum the use of atomic weapons..."
Bürgerin: "Exactly! That`s exactly what it is!"
Bürger: She`s right!"
Mr Ooyama: "That`s my point! World affairs are fragile enough as is! IF this were to be made public, can you imagine the consequences?"
Bürgerin: "The truth is the truth!"
Mr Ooyama: "That is what makes it such a delicate matter? The improper handling of such a notion would engulf the country in a panic! The government, the economy, and internationl relations would plunge into total chaos!"
Bürgerin: You stupid idion? What are you saying?!"
Mr Ooyama: "You dare to call me an idiot?!"

Es bildet sich eine große Unruhe.

Mr Ooyama: "Apologize! Apolohize!"
Bürgerin: "The truth must be made public!"

Reporter erheben sich von ihren Plätzen und machen Photos.




Szenenwechsel: Eine Zeitung ist zu sehen. (vermutlich wurde über den Godzilla und seine Entstehung berichtet)
Einige Bürger unterhalten sich in einer S-Bahn:

Frau: "It`s terrible, huh? Atomic sea life and radioactive fallout, and now this Godzilla to top it all off! What will happen if he appears out of Tokyo Bay?"
Mann 1: "First, he`ll probaply eat you in one bite."
Frau: "You`re hoffible! They seemed certain about the accuracy of their report. How could we create such a thing?"
Mann 2: "I guess, I`ll have to find a shelter soon."
Frau: "Find one for me, too?"
Mann 1: "The shelters again? That stinks."



Als die Soldaten das Hospital betreten setzt die DF wieder ein.

Die Radiomeldung geht noch weiter:

Radio: "All residents of the Minato, Shinagawa, and Osaku districts are to begin evacuating immediately. Please keep your radio on for further reports."
Ogata: "Emiko, today I`m going to ask for your father`s consent. Will that be alright?"



Emiko steht auf, läuft zur Tür und begrüßt ihren Vater

Emiko: "Welcome home."



Professor Kyohei Yamane tritt ein.

Emiko: "What happened, father?"

Emiko nimmt ihm dem Mantel ab. Professor Kyohei Yamane setzt sich an den Tisch



Professor Kyohei Yamane: "All they can think about is killing Godzilla. Why can`t they try to study him from a radiological perspective? It`s an unique opportunity!"

Emiko und Ogata setzen sich zu ihm.



Ogata: "Professor, I agree with them."
Professor Kyohei Yamane: "Ogata, I do not take this matter lightly. Godzilla is somethin that no one in the world has ever seen, and only those of us in Japan can study it!"
Ogata: "But professor, that`s no reason to do nothing while this monster ravages our country. Isn`t Godzilla a product of the atomic bomb that still haunts many of us japanese?"
Professor Kyohei Yamane: "Don`t you think we should study what keeps a creature like this alive, regardless of the radiation absorbs!"
Ogata: "But..."
Professor Kyohei Yamane: "All you want is to kill Godzilla too?! Go away! Don`t ever come back!"

Professor Kyohei Yamane steht auf und verlässt den Raum



Emiko: "I`m very sorry."
Ogata: "No, I shouldn`t have upset him like that."
Emiko: "No, father has been like this."
Ogata: "Emiko, give me a chance to see him again."



Aus dem Radio erklingt eine kleine Melodie.

Radio: "This is a special bulletin! This is a special bulletin! Godzilla was spotted moving toward the coastline several minutes ago. The barbed-wire fence along the shoreline is about to be charged with high voltage electricity. We repeat..."



Ein Vogelkäfig ist zu sehen.



Als die Soldaten an der Küste zu sehen sind, setzt die DF wieder ein.

Die Szene im Krankenhaus ist in der Japanfassung länger:

Die Kamera schwenkt weiter über die Verletzten und zoomt dann auf ein Kind, das von einem Arzt auf Radioaktivität untersucht wird.



Radio: "Godzilla has retreated back into the sea. Professor Yamane has been asked to work on a plan to defeat the monster. No details are known at this time. That is the news for now.

Emiko sitzt neben dem Arzt, der den Kopf schüttelt.



Lautsprecher: "Mr. Ogata from Southern Sea Salvage. Mr. Ogata from Southern Sea Salvage. There has been a change in the scheduled timetable. Please report to the briefing room for further instructions."

Wieder sind einig Verletzte zu sehen.



Als das Kind zu sehen ist setzt die DF wieder ein.

Das Gespräch zwischen Emiko und Serizawa ist länger:

Emiko: "My..."
Serizawa: "I intended to devote my work to the study of the element, oxygen. But in the course of my research, I came across an unknown form of energy. In my first experiment, I discovered a powerful force that scared me beyond words. I didn`t eat for two or three days!"



Serizawa nimmt eine Schale mit einer Flüssigkeit in die Hand



Serizawa: "Just a little piece of this, dropped into the water, could turn the entire Tokyo Bay into a graveyard!

Serizawa stellt die Schale in ein Regal



Emiko: "Why are yo working on such an awful project?"
Serizawa: "Emiko! I perform my work strictly as a research scientist!"
Emiko: "But, what if... what if your dicovery is used for some horrible purpose?"
Serizawa: "You`re right. Used as a weapon, this would be as powerful as a nuclear bomb. It could totally destroy humankind! But, I believe I can`t find a use fpr the Oxygen Destroyer that will benefit society. Until then, I won`t reveal it`s existence. That`s why I didn`t say anything to the reporter. If I am forced to surrender this device in it`s present form I`ll make sure the results of my experiments are destroyed in the event of my death."



Die DF setzt wieder ein als Emiko sagt:

Emiko: "I understand. I won`t tell anyone about this, not even my own father."

Der Dialog zwischen Emiko, Ogata und Serizawa ist in der Japanfassung länger:

Serizawa: "Ogata, if the Oxygen Destroyer is used even once, politicians from around the world will see it. Of course, they`ll want to use it as a weapon. Bombs vs. bombs, missiles vs. missiles, and now a new superweapon to throw upon us all. As a scientist, no, as a human being, I can`t allow that to happen! Am I right?"



Ogata und Emiko schauen sich tief in die Augen.

Ogata: "Then, what do we do about the horror before us now? Should we just let it happen? If anyone can save us now... Serizawa, you`re the only one! If... you use the device to defeat Godzilla, unless you reveal what you have done, who will know about it?"
Serizawa: "Ogata, humans are weak animals. Even if I burn my notes, the secret will stil be in my head. Until I die, how can I be sure I won`t be forced by someone to make the device again?"



Als Serizawa die Hände über den Kopf zusammenschlägt setzt die DF wieder ein.
